TEPSA-CIR National Convention on the Future of Europe

TEPSA and the Centre of International Relations (University of Ljubljana, Slovenia) organised on 3 December 2018 a National Convention on the Future of Europe under the Europe for Citizens programme. The event was hosted by the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.

The introductory speech was given by Paul Schmidt, Secretary General of the Austrian Society for European Politics and the co-editor of a book titled â€™The Future of Europe: View from the Capitals’. Mr Schmidt provided a state-of-the-art snapshot of political dynamics within selected EU member states and offered several cues for the round table discussants, who addressed the Future of Europe through the prism of Slovenia.

The round table discussants included: the Deputy Chair of the Committee on European Union Affairs at the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia Dr. Milan Brglez, the Director General for EU Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia mag. David Brozina, the Director of the SLOGA Platform Albin Keuc, and an economic analyst at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia Bojan Ivanc.

The debate, which was moderated by Professor Dr. Maja BuÄŤar from CIR, focused on the position of different stakeholders regarding the White Paper on the Future of Europe and tried to expose the most optimal scenario for Slovenia.

TEPSA was a beneficiary of an Operating Grant awarded in the framework of the Europe for Citizens Programme of the European Union for the period 2018-2020. Within its work programme, TEPSA organised a number of events both in Brussels and in the Member States, in cooperation with its member institutes. The Operating grant also supported the statutory activities of the TEPSA Secretariat, such as the meetings of the governing bodies and TEPSA’s communication activities.
