On Thursday 15 January 2026, the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP), in collaboration with the Trans European Policy Studies Association (TEPSA), organised a panel discussion on “Greece-U.S. relations and the future of transatlantic cooperation”. The event took place from 19:00 at the Demos Center of the American College of Greece (Ipitou 17b, Athens 105 57), in Greek.
The event presented the new volume “The United States and the Future of Europe: Views from the Capitals”, with a particular focus on the Greek chapter, “From Myth to Reality: The Odyssey of U.S.–Greek Relations Finding Safe Harbour”.
The discussion highlighted that Greece-U.S. relations are currently at a strong and stable point, even as broader transatlantic relations face increasing uncertainty. Panellists emphasised that recent shifts in U.S. foreign policy underline the need for Europe to strengthen its strategic autonomy, particularly in the areas of defence, economic resilience, and political cohesion. At the same time, the discussion pointed to persistent divergences among EU Member States regarding the future of Europe and the nature of the transatlantic partnership. The economic dimension of EU-U.S. relations, including trade and tariffs, was identified as a critical factor shaping future cooperation. Overall, the panel underlined that while the transatlantic relationship remains indispensable, it is undergoing a period of recalibration that requires clearer strategic choices from both Europe and Greece.
