Europa Club Wien: “EU-USA: Make or break? The future of the transatlantic relationship” | 2 June [German language event]

The transatlantic relationship between the US and Europe is not what it used to be. Assessments of the rules-based world order, security and trade issues and democratic values are diverging. Ambivalent signals from Washington are forcing Europe to stand on its own two feet, to rethink, to free itself from dependencies. How resolutely is Europe responding to these developments? How can sustainable cooperation be achieved despite the sometimes profound differences of opinion? What room for compromise is there? And does Europe have the courage to pursue new, alternative paths of international cooperation?

Beate Meinl-Reisinger, Federal Minister for European and International Affairs, addressed these and other questions in a keynote speech at the Europa Club Vienna, organised by the Austrian Society for European Politics (ÖGfE) in collaboration with TEPSA. Afterwards, an international panel of experts will discuss the sustainability of the transatlantic relationship. The presentation of the new book ‘The United States and the Future of Europe: Views from the Capitals’, the seventh volume in a series published by TEPSA, in which over 60 authors analyse the future of relations with the USA from the perspective of European capitals in 41 country chapters, forms the framework for the exciting afternoon of discussion.
