FEUTURE’s News Ticker December 2016

As the year 2016 draws to a close, we would like to update you on the latest activities of the Horizon 2020 project “FEUTURE”. 2016 was definitely a challenging year in EU-Turkey relations. Turkey has been deeply shaken by the failed coup attempt in July 2016 and in its aftermath, while the EU has struggled with a protracted existential crisis, punctuated by the UK referendum to exit the EU, an ongoing rise of populist Eurosceptic forces, and a gruesome series of terrorist attacks in different EU cities. Likewise, Turkey has experienced an atrocious series of terrorist attacks which shows no sign of abating. Precisely in such times, the value of a close consortium of Turkish, EU, Middle Eastern and Eastern European partners is greater than ever. In terms of research collaboration, we were delighted to launch successfully this research and innovation action on the future of EU-Turkey relations within a consortium of 15 institutional partners. Through our research, framing future scenarios for EU-Turkey relations, we aim to foster a dialogue between all parties, which is more important than ever. We wish all of you festive holidays and a happy new year and look forward to continue our collaboration in 2017.
