As the year 2018 draws to an end we would like to inform you on the latest activities of the Horizon 2020 project “FEUTURE”. During this year the question of how to frame the EU-Turkey relationship in the future became more relevant than ever: in summer 2018 the presidential system in Turkey was effectively constitutionalized with the parliamentary and presidential elections on 24 June 2018, and European voices calling for a cancellation of the accession procedure in order to seek forms of “realistic strategic partnership” became louder. After two years of in-depth analysis of the drivers of EU-Turkey relations in six thematic dimensions (politics, economics, security, energy, migration and identity) the FEUTURE project has started to identify the challenges to the relationship and to elaborate the framework for a scenario of conflictual cooperation. We have also successfully established a broad network and fostered research dialogue and we are specially looking forward to the final conference in Brussels on 28 February and 1 March 2019, where we will discuss the future of EU-Turkey relations and the main findings of FEUTURE’s research.
