What causes political polarisation?

Political polarisation is driven by feelings over facts. This is usually the main narrative. But what if this was not the whole story? What if polarisation was caused by more than just emotions?

This TEPSA Animated Explainer focuses on the causes of political polarisation and explores the role of re-description as a reason for polarising political tendencies. The video is based on the findings of the RECLAIM publication, “Not about facts, but emotions? Political polarisation as a problem of redescription”, written by Jeremias Schledorn.

This Animated Explainer has been created in collaboration of the Horizon-funded “Reclaiming Liberal Democracy in the Post-Factual Age” (RECLAIM) project, which investigates the impact of post-truth politics on liberal democracy and looks for ways to mitigate it.
