Migration continues to be one of the most sensitive and debated topics within the EU and its Member States. For this reason, TEPSA is organising a detailed seminar for Master’s students on EU Asylum and Migration policies.
This training will offer 20 graduate students an opportunity to gain first-hand insights from researchers, EU practitioners, policymakers and officials on the current state of play of the migration challenge.
Participants will follow tailored lectures by leading academics and complement them by visiting:
➢ European Commission, Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs (DG HOME)
➢ Council of the European Union, General Secretariat for Home Affairs
➢ European Parliament, meeting with an MEP working on the migration portfolio
➢ European External Action Service, Division of Migration and Human Security
➢ An NGO and a Think Tank
➢ The Permanent Representation of an EU Member State

The report of the four-day EU@Work Seminar on EU Asylum and Migration Policies is now available!
The seminar involved 23 MA students and recent graduates from different universities across Europe and beyond. The aim was to provide them with first-hand insights from EU institutions in the migration portfolio.
The report outlines the daily activites, visits and lectures delivered to the participants, as well as general information about the European Union Asylum and Migration Policies.
The seminar was co-funded by the Europe for Citizens Programme, and took place on 4-7 December.

TEPSA held EU@Work Seminar on EU Asylum and Migration policies on 4-7 December
TEPSA devoted one seminar to the analysis of EU asylum and migration policies from 4 to 7 December in Brussels. EU@Work Seminar gathered 23 students and recent graduates from universities across Europe and beyond.
Participants had the opportunity to gain first-hand insights from EU institutions in the migration portfolio, by visiting DG Migration and Home Affairs (European Commission), the Council of the EU, the European External Action Service (EEAS) and by meeting with a Member of the European Parliament participating in the negotiations with the Council on the new migration and asylum framework for the EU.
The institutional side of migration and asylum policies was complemented by a visit to the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE), where participants grasped the understanding of an NGOs devoted to the legal assistance of asylum-seekers and advocating for a change in EU agenda. Furthermore, the group visited the Permanent Representation of Austria to the EU, key Member State holding the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU and with a strong focus on the migration dossier.
All visits were discussed internally within lectures provided by Prof. Jaap de Zwaan, Secretary-General of TEPSA and Academic Coordinator of the seminar, who framed the theoretical knowledge of the training. The last day of the seminar, a group exercise was conducted, where participants simulated the representation of the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Council of the EU, EU Member States, the United Nations and an NGO discussing on potential incentives at an European level for the integration of third-country nationals residing in the EU.
