RADAR Youth Lab Turin: The Migratory Phenomena Between Facts and Political Narrative

The RADAR project aims to investigate the spread of disinformation in the European Union and specific national contexts. As part of this project, a Youth Lab was held on May 10, 2023, at Collegio Carlo Alberto. This interactive workshop between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm is designed for young people between the 18 and 30 years-old and aims to explore the relationship between migration and political narratives. The Youth Lab was conducted in English.

Participants were urged not only to reflect on the relationship between migration and political narratives, but also to provide policy-relevant solutions to address disinformation at the national and EU-level. They worked together in plenary and smaller groups to develop recommendations, and two selected Youth ambassadors will deliver them in Brussels at two concluding high-level events on February 1 and 2, 2024.

The Youth Lab was open to all enthusiastic young people residing in EU Member States, and organisers covered travel, food, and lodging expenses for those coming from outside of Italy (up to 500 euros per person). A separate reimbursement package will cover the coming of Youth Ambassadors to Brussels for the RADAR Final Conference.

Although the focus was to bring together European youth organisation representatives, anyone who is interested in contributing to the future of the EU and combating disinformation was welcome to join the event. In the morning, a public debate on ‘The migratory phenomena between facts and political narrative’ also invited young participants so that they could benefit from a broader discussion on disinformation and migration.

To be eligible for the Youth Lab:
– Applicants needed to be between the ages of 18 and 30 years old;
– Applicants needed to express interest on disinformation, migration or EU policy-making;
– Applicants needed to have a residency in a Member State of the EU;
– Applicants needed to demonstrate proficiency in English.

RADAR’s Youth Lab strives for equal representation of genders, countries, and studies or employment profiles, so a detailed registration for selection purposes was required. The personal data was stored until the completion of the project (see the privacy note here).
