The FEUTURE Concluding Conference “Back to the F(e)uture: Discussing scenarios for EU-Turkey Relations”

On 28 February and 1 March 2019, the Trans European Policy Studies Association (TEPSA) and the University of Cologne hosted the FEUTURE Final Conference ‘Back to the F(e)uture: Discussing scenarios for EU-Turkey Relations’. 

The conference, as part of the project “FEUTURE – The Future of EU Turkey Relations: Mapping Dynamics and Testing Scenarios”, brought together academics from universities and research institutes, as well as political experts and government officials (André De Munter, European Parliament, DG for External Policies of the Union, Policy analyst for Western Balkans, Turkey and enlargement policy; Maciej Popowski, Deputy Director-General, DG NEAR; Thomas Mayr-Harting, Director for Europe and Central Asia, EEAS; etc).

Participants discussed the main findings of this 3-year research project that aimed to map the dynamics of EU-Turkey relations and draw future scenarios and policy recommendations on the relations between these political actors. They reflected on a constructive framework for EU-Turkey Relations, as well as debated “which F(e)uture for EU-Turkey Relations” during a Policy Challenge Session.

The conference is part of the project “FEUTURE – The Future of EU Turkey Relations: Mapping Dynamics and Testing Scenarios”, and will bring academics, political experts and government officials to Brussels. The main goal is to discuss the main findings of a 3-year research project that aimed to map the dynamics of EU-Turkey relations and draw future scenarios and policy recommendations on the relations between these political actors. More About FEUTURE

FEUTURE was a three-year research project on EU-Turkey relations. With a broad consortium made up of renowned research institutes across Europe and beyond, FEUTURE set out to explore the range of different options for further EU-Turkey cooperation in the next decade, by analysing drivers of cooperation within six thematic dimensions (politics, security, economics, energy, migration, identity) and across four levels of analysis (EU, Turkey, neighbourhood, global).
